SHELBY LEIDING

Shelby is a Registered Psychologist and Mediator with experience in counselling and formal assessment, including psycho-educational assessments, parenting capacity assessments, and psychological or diagnostic assessments. She is skilled in assessing for learning challenges, giftedness, developmental delays, ADHD, and complex emotional and behavioral challenges. Shelby is committed to providing comprehensive assessments that support individuals and families to understand their strengths and needs and provide personalized, meaningful recommendations.

In counselling, Shelby specializes in working with young people and families who are experiencing a range of complex challenges including family conflict and separation, mental health concerns, trauma, school and learning difficulties, and problems in relationships. Shelby draws from a range of frameworks including neuroscience, attachment, developmental psychology, and cognitive/behavioural approaches. She has extensive experience working with young people who have experienced developmental trauma and is formally trained in trauma therapies and frameworks (ART, Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics), expressive arts therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mediation. 

Shelby completed her Masters of Counselling Psychology at Athabasca University and is a Doctoral Candidate for her PhD in Developmental Psychology. She is a member of the College of Alberta Psychologists, Psychologists’ Association of Alberta, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. Shelby has over 10 years’ experience working with complex young people and families in the non-profit sector. She is also a part-time faculty member at City University where she teaches child and adolescent counselling.
